Old-Fashioned Chocolate Cake

Equipment:

  • Oven
  • 2, 8x2 Round Cake Pans
  • Pam Cooking Spray
  • Whisk
  • Large Mixing Bowl
  • Large Measuring Cup
  • Medium-Sized Cooling Rack
  • Wooden Spoon
  • Butter Knife

Ingredients:

  • 3 Cups All-Purpose Flour
  • 2 Cups Sugar
  • 1/2 Cup Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
  • 2 Teaspoons Baking Powder
  • 1 Teaspoon Table Salt
  • 2 Cups Hot Water
  • 3/4 Cup Vegetable Oil
  • 2 Tablespoons Distilled White Vinegar
  • 1 Tablespoon Instant Coffee Granules
  • 1 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract

Pre-Preparation:

  1. Lay out all ingredients/equiptment15 minutes prior to cooking/baking.

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 Degree, with middle oven rack on the center in oven.
  2. Spray your 8x2-inch Round Cake Pans with cooking spray.
  3. In your large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda, and salt.
  4. In your large mixing cup, combine water, oil, vinegar, instant coffee, and vanilla.
  5. Add and whisk measuring cup mixture into your dry ingredients in your large mixing bowl until combined-a few lumps are ok.
  6. In your sprayed 8x2-inch Round Cake Pans, divide your cake batter between each pan.
  7. Place pans in oven for 35-45 minutes or until butter knife comes out clean. *Please Note* Oven temperatures vary, so check cake approx. 5 minutes before previously suggested.
  8. Remove cakes from oven and place on cooling rack to cool for 15 minutes.
  9. Then, gently dump cakes out of pans onto cooling rack and allow to THOROUGHLY cool.
